The National Day of Prayer was designated by the US Congress as the first Thursday in May, and approved by President Truman in 1952. President Obama completely ignored this year’s observance on May 6, just as he did during his first year in office in 2009.
That is fine with me, as I would rather he not be hypocritical about what he believes. It is obvious that the celebration of prayer is not at the top of his priority agenda. However, he might endorse the prayer below, delivered by a group of community organizers last year:
